Privacy Policy

1. About WonderQuest

WonderQuest is an educational exploration application designed to help children discover interesting topics, develop curiosity and enjoy learning beyond their regular academic curriculum.

WonderQuest is designed around a parent-controlled family account. Parents or guardians create and manage Explorer profiles for children who use the learning experience.

Protecting children's privacy is an important part of the design of WonderQuest. We aim to collect only information reasonably necessary to provide, maintain and improve the service.

For questions regarding privacy or personal information, please contact:

privacy@wonderquestexplorer.com

2. Parent-Controlled Accounts

WonderQuest uses a parent-managed account model.

A parent or guardian creates the WonderQuest Family account using information including:

Email verification is used to authenticate the Parent account.

Children are not required to create their own email accounts or provide their own email addresses to use an Explorer profile.

Parents and guardians are responsible for creating and managing Explorer profiles associated with their WonderQuest Family account.

3. Explorer Information

When a parent creates an Explorer profile, WonderQuest may store:

We encourage parents to use a first name, nickname or other non-identifying Explorer name rather than a child's full legal name.

WonderQuest does not require an Explorer to provide a home address, telephone number or personal email address.

4. Learning and Progress Information

WonderQuest stores information necessary to maintain each Explorer's learning experience and progress.

This may include:

This information allows WonderQuest to provide continuity, rewards, progress information and age-appropriate learning experiences.

5. Voice Answering and Microphone Access

WonderQuest provides an optional Voice Answer feature.

When an Explorer chooses to use Voice Answer, WonderQuest requests permission to access the device microphone and uses the platform's speech-recognition capabilities to convert speech into text.

On Apple devices, WonderQuest uses Apple's Speech framework. Depending on the device, operating system and availability of speech-recognition services, audio may be processed by Apple as part of providing speech recognition.

On Android devices, WonderQuest uses Android's speech-recognition services. Depending on the device and configured speech-recognition provider, speech processing may occur through services provided by the device or speech-recognition provider.

WonderQuest does not intentionally store voice recordings in its database and does not save voice recordings to the Explorer's WonderQuest profile. WonderQuest does not intentionally store the resulting voice transcript in Supabase as part of the Voice Answer feature.

Voice recognition is used to interpret an Explorer's answer to the current learning question.

Microphone access can be controlled through the device's privacy settings, and Explorers can answer without using the Voice Answer feature.

This disclosure is important because Google treats microphone data from children as sensitive information.

6. AI-Assisted Learning Explanations

WonderQuest may use artificial intelligence services to help generate or enrich age-appropriate educational explanations.

The current WonderQuest architecture uses a WonderQuest-controlled Supabase server function which may communicate with OpenAI to generate learning explanations and related educational content.

Information sent for this purpose may include educational context such as:

WonderQuest is designed so that the AI learning-explanation request does not require a child's name, Parent email address, voice recording or Family PIN.

AI-generated material is intended to supplement the curated WonderQuest learning experience and may not always be error-free.

7. How We Use Information

WonderQuest uses information to:

WonderQuest does not use children's personal information for behavioural or targeted advertising.

8. Advertising and Tracking

WonderQuest does not currently display third-party advertising.

The current WonderQuest iOS and Android applications do not intentionally use third-party advertising SDKs or behavioural advertising systems.

WonderQuest does not sell children's personal information.

WonderQuest does not use children's personal information to build advertising profiles.

If these practices materially change, this Privacy Policy will be updated and any consent required by applicable law will be obtained before the new practices are introduced.

This is particularly relevant for Apple's Kids Category, which places strict limitations on third-party advertising and analytics.

9. Service Providers

WonderQuest relies on a limited number of third-party services to operate particular functions.

These currently include:

Supabase — authentication, database, server functions and backend infrastructure.

Apple — App Store distribution, StoreKit purchases/subscriptions and Apple platform services, including speech recognition where applicable.

Google — Google Play distribution, Google Play Billing and Android platform/speech-recognition services where applicable.

OpenAI — AI-assisted educational explanation generation through WonderQuest's backend where that feature is used.

These services may process information necessary to provide their respective functions.

WonderQuest does not authorise service providers to use children's WonderQuest information for behavioural advertising.

10. Purchases and Subscriptions

WonderQuest may offer subscriptions or other paid functionality through the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Payments are processed by Apple or Google rather than directly by WonderQuest.

WonderQuest may receive and maintain information necessary to determine whether a valid subscription or entitlement belongs to a WonderQuest Family account, such as subscription status and transaction or purchase identifiers.

WonderQuest does not receive or store the user's complete payment-card details.

11. Biometrics

WonderQuest may allow a parent to use device biometric authentication for protected Parent functionality where supported.

Biometric verification is performed through the device's operating-system authentication mechanisms.

WonderQuest does not receive or store the parent's fingerprint or facial biometric template.

12. Children's Privacy

WonderQuest is designed for children but operates through a parent-controlled account.

Children are not required to create an independent WonderQuest account.

WonderQuest does not provide public profiles, open chat or a mechanism for Explorers to communicate with unknown users.

Parents control the creation and management of Explorer profiles.

Where applicable law requires parental consent for processing a child's personal information, WonderQuest relies on appropriate parental involvement and will implement additional consent mechanisms where required.

Apple requires Kids Category applications to comply with applicable children's privacy laws and distinguishes parental gates from legally required parental consent.

13. Data Storage and Security

WonderQuest uses Supabase infrastructure to provide backend services including authentication and database storage.

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards intended to protect information from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction.

No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security.

14. Data Retention

WonderQuest retains Parent account, Explorer and learning information while reasonably necessary to provide the service.

When a Parent account is permanently deleted, WonderQuest is designed to delete the Parent account, associated Explorer profiles and associated WonderQuest learning data, subject to information that must legitimately be retained for security, legal, fraud-prevention or transaction-record purposes.

Apple and Google may independently retain App Store or Google Play transaction information under their respective policies.

15. Account and Data Deletion

Parents can request permanent deletion of their WonderQuest Family account and associated Explorer information.

WonderQuest provides an account-deletion process accessible from Parent account controls and through its web-based account-deletion service.

The deletion process verifies the registered Parent email address before permanent deletion.

Deleting the WonderQuest account removes the Parent account, Explorer profiles and associated WonderQuest learning data according to WonderQuest's deletion process.

Deleting a WonderQuest account does not automatically cancel an Apple App Store or Google Play subscription. Subscriptions must be cancelled separately through the applicable store.

This external deletion route is important because Google requires apps offering account creation to provide both an in-app deletion path and a web resource for requesting deletion.

16. Parent Rights and Choices

Subject to applicable law, parents or guardians may request to:

Contact:

privacy@wonderquestexplorer.com

We may verify that the requester is the Parent account holder before fulfilling a request involving account or Explorer information.

17. Website Privacy

The WonderQuest website provides information about the project and applications.

WonderQuest does not currently use the website for behavioural advertising.

Technical infrastructure providers such as Cloudflare may process ordinary technical information required to securely deliver website content and protect the website.

If analytics, cookies or additional website services are introduced in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated where appropriate.

18. International Processing

WonderQuest's service providers may process information in countries other than the user's country of residence.

Where required by applicable law, appropriate safeguards will be used for international processing or transfers.

19. Changes to this Privacy Policy

WonderQuest may update this Privacy Policy as the service evolves or legal and platform requirements change.

The latest version will be published on this website with an updated effective date.

If a material change affects the processing of children's personal information, appropriate notice and parental consent will be obtained where required.
